Facility Design

IBA proudly presents its Proton Therapy Facility Design, which we claim to be the most advanced Proton Therapy system on the market. It is the result of years of investment. The standard model with three gantry rooms and one fixed beam room was designed to allow full flexibility, reliability, safety, high throughput and ease of use.

This solution is scalable to fewer or more treatment rooms, depending on your needs. In the treatment of some radio-resistant tumors of complex geometry, carbon radiation has shown
superior efficiency. In order to meet the medical requests, IBA has developed the concept of an attractive Heavy Particle Therapy* solution, built on our successful Proton Therapy expertise.

Facility Design Process

Based on our experience in development of other proton therapy and related facilities and unlike other vendors, IBA has developed an Interface Building Document – IBD.

The IBA IBD defines the facility interface requirements necessary to support the installation, operation, and maintenance of the proton therapy system.

The released version of this document establishes the technical baseline of the requirements to be achieved by the facility designers and builders. It also includes a complete set of drawings that reflect the specifications of the proton therapy related rooms. IBA’s experience in other projects has established and proven our ability to save considerable on both time and workload for our partners selected in the building design and construction phase.

A key person in this initial team is the IBA Facilities Interface and Construction Manager, who is available to advise the facility design teams in their development of the building specifications. He will perform regular checks on the progress of the design and construction of the building, and will work with the IBA Project Manager and the facility Construction Manager to coordinate the earliest availability of the building for equipment installation.

A typical example to describe the process is the project for the Florida Proton Therapy Institute. The FPTI proton therapy facility has been designed to satisfy the clinical and research interests of the project sponsor and system user: the Radiation Oncology Department of the University of Florida Medical School. The numbers and types of treatment rooms and ancillary facilities such as those related to diagnostics and research were defined by independently verified economic feasibility studies. The detailed facility design requirements were then set by the clinical user’s functional needs and those needs related to installation, operation and maintenance of the proton therapy system and other equipment.)
