Cancers Treated

Proton Therapy can be used to treat any cancer that can be treated by conventional radiotherapy. It can be used on its own or in combination with other treatments such as chemotherapy, surgery and other radiotherapy techniques.

Proton Therapy is particularly appropriate in situations where treatment options are limited and conventional radiotherapy presents an unacceptable risk to the patient; these include cancers of the eye or brain, tumors close to the brain stem or spinal cord, prostate cancer, and pediatric cancers. In pediatric cases, for example, the avoidance of even moderate amounts of radiation to normal tissues is vital to preventing cognitive impairments, growth defects, cardiac damage, radiation-induced tumors and other morbidities later in life.

The range of conditions that can be treated with Proton Therapy is increasing, providing more opportunities for improved therapeutic ratios. As the market leader in designing and equipping Proton Therapy facilities around the world, IBA is at the forefront of helping bring this advanced technology to cancer patients.
